Open Source Pattern Drafting

ParaPattern

Para-metric Para-llel Para-mount

A browser-based parametric pattern drafting system for sewing enthusiasts and professionals. Every line, curve, and seam allowance is driven by formulas — not drawn freehand.

Pattern drafting,
reimagined

A modern, browser-based system built for sewing enthusiasts and professionals. No plugins, no desktop installation — everything runs in your browser.

Para-metric

Every dimension is computed from formulas and body measurements. Change one value, the entire pattern adapts.

Para-llel

Collaborative from the ground up — patterns are shared, discussed, and improved together.

Para-mount

Professional-grade output with rigorous testing, open formats, and modern engineering.

What you'll be able to do

Parametric Formulas

Define every point, line, and curve with formulas referencing body measurements.

Projector Sewing

Calibrate and cut patterns directly on fabric at true 1:1 scale. No printing.

Multi-Format Export

Export to SVG, PDF, DXF, and HP-GL for home printers, plotters, and industrial cutters.

Collaborative Sharing

Share patterns, measurement sets, and pattern libraries with other users.

Where we're headed

ParaPattern is being built incrementally — amateur-first, then professional-complete. Here's the story of what's coming.

Start with straight lines

It begins simply. You open your browser, key in a handful of body measurements, and draft your first pattern — straight seams, computed dimensions, automatic seam allowance. Every line is a formula, not a freehand stroke. Export to SVG and you're cutting fabric the same afternoon.

Then curves arrive

Bézier splines and circular arcs bring real garments to life — necklines that flow, armholes that fit, hems that curve exactly where they should. Control points are parametric too: change a shoulder width and the armscye redraws itself.

Project it, cut it

Calibrate your projector, lay the fabric on the table, and cut at true 1:1 scale — no printing, no taping, no wasted paper. The browser drives the projection directly, with calibration tools built in.

The full professional toolkit

Over thirty geometric tools — intersections, perpendiculars, tangent points, true darts, mirrors, rotations. Grading across size ranges. Automatic nesting for fabric-efficient layouts. Export to SVG, PDF, DXF, and HP-GL for home printers, plotters, and industrial cutters.

Share and build together

Patterns are meant to be shared. Publish measurement sets, build pattern libraries, collaborate with other makers. Every pattern stays in open formats — SVG, PDF, DXF — so your work is never locked in.

About the project

Built From Scratch

A modern reimplementation, designed and built as a browser-native application from the ground up — driven entirely by documentation and design specifications.

Made for Makers

Built by hobbyists, for hobbyists — and open-source to the core. Whether you sew your first skirt or draft production patterns, this tool grows with you.

Open Formats

All exports use standard open formats — SVG, PDF, DXF — so your patterns are never locked in.
